The Magic Frequencies

Hookey dokey..

Some of the magic frequencies for fat mixes!

BD: 60-90hz thump, 4k attack

SD: 240hz fatness(love it) I'm a fan of 192hz but that's just a general pref, 5-6k crispness

Hats: 200hz clank 7.5-10k sausage sizzle

General perc: fatness 120-240hz, attack 5k

Bass: 60-80hz bottom 700-1k attack (if it's a real bass, with strings and shit
2.5k for the string noise)

lecky guitars: fullness 240hz, bite 2.5k, air 8k

Vox: Fullness 120hz, boom 200-240 hz, presence 4-6k depending on gender and ethnicity (it makes a difference) Sibilance 7.5-10k

When in doubt...cut it out! (I'm still trying to work this one out as well, but hey! It sounds good!!)

Learn how to use the attack feature on a compressor, that's where the bitey bit lives!

There's a whole load more, but that's the basics

nice whan - this is great advice in a sea of questionable knowledge ;)

Can't forget about 15 - 20 k for that airy goodness on pads... Nice advice tho, spot on.
