[Tune] Tachyon Beam

Post by ~Lander~ » Wed Feb 18, 2015 12:33 pm

Hey guuuuuyseseses.

I am not sure about a couple of bits in this and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on it in general. I won't say what they are in case it is me being a twat :(

https://soundcloud.com/leftwingrecordin ... eftwing011 I have somehow done a track that has been released. I know, I don't know how either.

Hai.

Here are my thoughts, for what they worth:

1 minute in and it is building nicely. I like the low synth/bass. I think the atmospheric noises you have in the background could be doing a bit more over a longer period - they get repetitive fairly quickly. A few sweeps or variations every few bars could make a big difference.

2:45ish, the 'main' synth has come in now - it's good. I think it could be stronger in the mix, as it is getting lost slightly with all the other stuff that is happening. It feels like it should be a lot 'brighter'.

The second bassline that comes in has a nice rhythm but seems to hit a few notes that seem a bit dissonant with the rest of the track. Maybe check you are happy with that?

Otherwise it is nice. Good ideas and nice atmosphere, just needs a bit of spit and polish ;)

 Yes, that was one of them for shizzle :woo: I am 40% happy with it, which isn't great odds for it to be honest. GNSP bassline.

Thanks m'dear, your thoughts are always appreciated :D

Umm, I am sure there are lots of mix issues at the moment as I am a lazy twat and made it all in my headphones

jealous of your productivity
some good sounds that haven't gelled into a whole yet
something about the main melodic synth doesn't progress in a pleasing way to my ears

I make loads more than ever sees the light of day on here

My mix is probs awful and should hopefully sound a bit more uniform if I spend some time getting that right.

The one that comes in, umm, after the first breakdown?

imho your drums need to be more upfront/louder/more prominent, try envelope/transient shaping, something like this http://www.native-instruments.com/en/pr ... nt-master/

it does sound a bit like 2 or 3 ideas as opposed to one strong one

Yeah, was kinda my worry. I have killed the 303 stylee bass in it.

I still think the clangy perc needs some work or killing. IDK. I never know.

i see a lot of people that have dj'd or only really listened to mixes that then start trying to make music and try and cram in lots of ideas, because thats what their perception of this sort of music is, they only hear a tune in the context of a dj mix and they dont really hear it as an individual track, hence why they end up with an initial idea, a main bit and then turning into something completely different later on, like one track mixing into another and then out to another. I have to listen to shit all the time that starts in one key and before the end its done 3 different things in different or similar/slightly wonky keys, like 3 completely different tunes but theyve blended it into one offkey "tune"

not saying thats your issue at all but it does happen when you try and throw lots of different bits/ideas at it, theres a tune in there somewhere you just need to decide which bit to focus on and strip out the rest

I shoud stop listening to Floating Points
He is proper pro at that shit.

I just have issues taking things up and thinking it sounds empty after. Guess I need to just leave it a bit and see what I think when I come back to it.

I have totally taken all the chord business out now. The arpy ones. I really liked them and didn't want to get rid of them, I tried moving them to the start and it just didn't work there so killing them was the only thing to do :violin: Also got rid of the 303 bass and arrangement it ok now.

Was very possibly too high as hadn't played it proper loud.
