[Tune] Chickpea

Post by ~Lander~ » Sat Nov 15, 2014 9:27 pm

It sounds a bit moody and I have literally no idea why it ended up this way, I actually wanted to make some nice house. Big ups myself on not doing that

https://soundcloud.com/leftwingrecordin ... eftwing011 I have somehow done a track that has been released. I know, I don't know how either.

reckon it could all be a little bit tighter, those cymbals need taming a lil bit as they sound like youre hitting a thermos

i like the kick and vinyl crackle, pads and reversed vocal sound cool

Thanks Shapers.

When you say tighter, how do you mean?
The cymbals more well need to come down. I don't know if there is some random panning to the right as well :faceplam: my walls are still foamoless so still using headphones :(

can't really comment on the overall sound because it's not a style i listen to but
the timing/placement of the ping pong bleep sound is making my brow furrow

i quite liked the start, 4 me when that synth stab came in around 2.20 - the last stab on every bar seemed out - unless its meant to be like that!

Zee crashes?? Umm, well, I wanted them to sound as human as possible, I didn't think they were out :chin: I will have a check, unless you mean some other part. It has been a long day :violin:

this is awesome Lander!

I really like all the instrumentation I think its rad.

my only criticisms would be that everything sounds really 'back' in the mix if you know what I mean.

the problem with having everything that far back is that everything kind of sounds a bit soup-ey, if that makes any sense? Perhaps muddy is a better word.

I would experiment layering the kick with something a bit more resonant in the mid range and top end to give you a better spectral base and then you could probably bring your percussions up in the mix a bit also. Dont be afraid to use weirder sounds as percussions either. This sort of stuff really lends itself to odd sounds being used in the drums instead of 'traditional' drum sounds. Something that Bonobo does a lot of. Door latches, pots and pans, sounds of the rainforest, that kind of thing.

Sounds and atmosphere wise its bloody great, lots of depth and interest and vibes and stuff.

The crashes do get a bit repetitive so try panning them so they swap from left to right instead of always happening down to the left.

Sounds like something Scuba would do innit.

Thank you Alex :lurve: x

I will have a play about with maybe adding a 707 kick as well, possibly a tom on the last beat. It isn't finished yet but I am pretty far into it I think.

I have always struggled with the crashes, but will give the panning a go. Someone also said, maybe strip out the pad at 4:30ish for a bit to change the pace so going to give that a bash as well.

I wanted to make straight up house and ended up with this

sounds good

the cymbals will sound fine if you make them mono / put them up the middle and turn down about 5 db / put them in the background

they're over on the left and too loud which is making them poke out, otherwise they're ok

the claps could use a little more reverb just to bed them in a bit

Thanks Tambles :)

I struggled with the cymbals as soon as I had put them in there.

I added some more reverb to the claps the other day :bo: :)

are all of your track names now going to be vegan references?
