And according to Wikipedia:

"The drum track, though played by Reni, was recorded as he played in time to an unknown 70s funk loop at the insistence of John, angering the drummer at the apparent lack of belief in his talent. This was later said to have contributed to Reni leaving the band… After Reni left the band in 1995, "Fools Gold" was essentially retired from the live set, since replacement Robbie Maddix could not emulate Reni's complex drumming loops."

Reni was a superb drummer, him and Cressa were the heartbeat of the band

has anyone else noticed that the drum loop isn't a regular 4/4 beat throughout the song . if you listen to it over the space of 2 bars you'll notice that the first bar is regular 4/4 but the second bar 6/4 and this continues to repeat throughout the whole song . they even use it as a feature when the beat appears as a drum break during the middle part of the song .. Genius . i'd love to know whose idea that was ( one of the roses ? or the producer or someone else ? ) . i saw the roses live during their heyday and Reni played it live that way too .. double genius
