Surya Club - pentonville road Kings Cross
read a really bad review (flange) of this place and wasn't too plussed about it but i have to totally disagree and say that this is a proper wicked little venue
weird shiz fo sho - trim little bar upstairs and weird shit down stairs! the main "dance" room is one wall lined with CD's as wallpaper(musta been hundreds) lazers all around and butterflies made of 7" and 12" vinyls(very pretty/clever) attached here and there. Some people couldn't resist taking them home they were so lovely.........
Its a little out of the way so no passing traffic but i really liked it as an out of towner
there's a kitsch room at the back and the toilets are odd, plus some hydroponic 3ft by 3ft room which is like a window halfway down the corridor - but because of the oddness i really liked the layout - it has all the makings of a great little club.
anyways - reason for the thread - I saw Hubie play for the first time tonight and was properly impressed. seen lots of DJ's off here play out and always liked it but i was particularly impressed with his tune selection - not blamming out obvious tunes and set a real groove to the start of the evening. you hear a lot of the same stuff being churned out, but - big respect to Hubie for starting off a (West) night which consisted of DJ's reknowned for a certain flavour and keeping it different enough but exactly locked to the flava of the night.

to you fella

erm, because buying loads of pens and cds from wh smith and making furniture out of them does not constitute saving the environment? nor des filling the place with tv screens showing the cricket and messages such as '7 out of 10 journeys to work are by car' right. thanks for that surya!
the dancefloor idea was ok, but it doesnt really work unless it is rammed. and maybe it was on saturday, but if it wasnt then thats not helping either!
if it is doing stuff i dont know about then feel free to correct me, i found it hugely patronising though.

I think she sussed it was me who shouted despite my perfect nonchalant turn away
I also though it was a really nice venue, was pretty cheap for rounds there as well. But I'll have to agree with the sentiment that having four big plasma screens and a shit load of lights left on in empty rooms does outweigh the eco benefits of non-flushing urinals and decorations made of paper cups.

it's a marketing ploy, and it has worked quite well
