The extractor fan in our bathroom doesn't seem to be terribly effective so I want to try removing it/cleaning it + ducting and then resort to replacing if that doesn't help much. I don't think it's that old as it's still a current model number with Vectaire, though you can get more pwerful ones. (It's a "a10/4hct" if you really want to know)
Does anyone know how easy they are to remove/unwire etc? Anything I should look out for/do specifically to make it more effective? It's mounted high up on the wall with a short duct going outside.
I know nothing about this sort of thing and don't want to electrocute myself/damage it/whatever (I will obviously use the trip switch to make sure I don't do the 1st bit tbf)
Any help/pisstaking much appreciated :woo:

What Dan said. ^ it's basically going to be a motor and a couple of switches.
isolate the power at the rcd (fuse box)
undo screws/clips/fastenings.
clean away dust and gunk. (try not to get any on the electrics wet)
possibly strip and re-grease bearings.
re-assemble and fit.
turn power back on.
See what happens.

it MIGHT be on a different ring main, our power shower is, and if it's on the same circuit it will require turning that ring main off. if your shower isn't on a seperate ring main, it should be.

:chin:

Shower is fed from the boiler so isn't on any mains as such.
The fan goes on with the light so I am hoping/guessing that it will be on the same breaker as that....

Will give it a try tonight, sounds like it should be fairly easy, I am a DIY noob

I have
Replaced two ex tractor fans at our plane now. Piece of piss

You will have a live, neutral, earth and a switched live if it comes on with the pull cord. Unscrew the top plate and the cover for the wires and take a picture of how it all goes. Go to BnQ. You will have various options but it's all straightforward

MTFU...

If you haven't electrocuted yourself by the weekend, you're not trying hard enough.

I beg your pardon? I'm very good with electricity as it happens, everyone knows it's brown, black, grey and blue these days.
