i suppose there is a difference in saying my life is 'better' than yours/i am 'better off' than you and saying i am better than you.

i think you've hit the nail on the head smof. it's about fear, and lack of understanding.
I get trains alot, and most of the time there's chavvy types about, but if you actully chat to them (as i do sometimes when i'm bored and my ipod's run out of battery) you'll find they're ok and most of the time pretty polite. :)

Some interesting stuff said so far.

I'm a snob but I try not to be in as much as I try not to look down on people I know nothing about, but it's hard not to make judgements when you see people drive away from McDonalds drive thru and chuck their empty carton out of the window.

Does education make you a better person? errr.... yes!

knowing the difference between right and wrong and being taught good morals / manners and living by them, makes you a better person imo

were you grew up, how much money you have, makes no odds, theres rich people who are ignorant, and thick too

dtism, i get REALLY annoyed when people litter. I dont think that's being a snob though.
When i see people litter i often pick it up, go up to them and say "I think you dropped this" and give it back.
If they get arsey then I'll just say "look who's gonna pick that up? dont be a lazy fuck. just bin it." i can get quite angry. but i dont think that's snobby behaviour. IMO its just caring about the earth, and people should respect it.

I think it's fine to make judgements about people based on how they act. It's one thing thinking "dirty scum" just because someone is head to toe in reebok and talking like Westwood and you've read in the Daily Mail that that makes them a scallywag. But if someone's chucking rubbish around/shouting abuse at people/showing blatent disregard for other people then I'm sorry, but they are a cock, and in a house fire I would choose to save somebody else. I don't care how poor they are or how shitty their upbringing was, not being a cunt really isn't that hard.

imo education level is irrelevent, its all about nuture, if your parents are decent people and your circle of mates are, then usually you will turn out to be a decent person, if parents are not instilling their children with morals and values like half of the little fuckers i see running around my hometown, then what do you expect? some of the worst people come from lower class levels (e.g serial killers) and this is due to an overcrowed slum enviroment that breeds behaviour not normally seen in affluent society. most people have been scumbags at one time or another or at least are viewed that way by some. i dont think im a snob, im just very misanthropic

I am a snob - I was born and brought up in the lovely leafy Buckinghashire village of Chalfont St. Peter and I now live in Slough so being a snob sort of comes naturally

Yes sometimes i look at the elevated position you've reached in life and feel jealous that i was only able to attend a cheap and nasty comp :(

I know it smarts dont it

Yes, I have always been very impressed by Youthful Implant's distinct lack of snobery. He should have turned out a stuck up toff but rebelled and became an east-end wide boy instead! I certainally don't envy his private education though- I am a snob as it is- god knows what I would have turned out like if I went to some posh all girls school!
