I don't know if it's definitely a sign that I'm a snob or not, but I tend to walk through crowded areas (e.g. Oxford Street, Nottingham City Centre) and feel utterly convinced than I am just better than the vast majority of the people surrounding me.

we get on great btw, have a lovely relationship. as we both do with my dad, who is doing extremely well, without a degree which most of his colleagues have, and being the son of an extremely suffolk milkman.

my family are :seen: but we are all snobs, it has made us strive to do better for ourselves, and made my dad work hard to ensure me and my brother have a better life. which we do!

I am a snob, and when you work your arse twice as hard as some prat on the clapham omnibus, you are entitled to look down your noses at the lazy cunts. IMO. :D

^ ditto blista, I went to a scummy comp and I've done alright for myself. The people I know who went to private school are invariably drug dealers/abusers, young parents, permanent backpackers and waiters. Nowt wrong with that of course, but it hardly meets the lawyer/doctor/vet/architect ambitions that I know their parents had for many of them!

Strange.

Not really strange, its classic rebelion, being forced into nasty nasty private schools, feeling completely rejected, is likely to fuck a persons perspective also.

I know someone who went to private school, I dont know what he does now, but he was dealing last timei saw him.

Also, someone with a wealth parents, is likely to have had everything they wanted, bought for them, so one day mummy and daddy said no  and, having never worked or achived anything through taking everything for granted, found themself... fucked! and ended up taking bins out.

having shitty football shoes has given me a much better apreciation for more important things in life than fickle Nike sports wear. Some parents say "I want to buy my kids all the things i never had"

Fuck that, I like the way i turned out, so im not gonna buy my kids ANYTHING.

I'm sorry mAlt0248 but I think you're living in a dreamworld if you believe that. The country is full of utter pondlife. I'm not talking about education, class, wealth or health, I'm talking about morals and scruples. I think there is a definite gap between people who live by the idea "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and people who would as soon stab you as look at you.

Thankfully, most of the aforementioned pondlife are stuck in queues in McDonalds and Argos, or on a bus in a traffic jam most of the time.

Yes I'm a snob, burn me. :)

of course there are morons alive and pondlife. but they are the same as you. deal with it. this is the precise reason why communism doesn't work.

i think maybe you are being a bit judgemental. it's impossible not to. you see someone in the street and you think 'look at the state of that' when in fact they could potentially be the next milton, or burroughs.

you should face up to the fact that no one is a lord any more, we are all the same, despite how tatty we look. some make a concerted effort to be less educated, that's their choice, it doesn't make you any better. you may think to youself, while perusing your first edition copy of Mathews' 'oulipo compedium', that walking around with your brain full surrounded by people with empty brains makes you superior. it doesn't. unless you are immortal, then it's different.

Sorry Mø, I beg to differ. Some of the cunts I see in Brighton on a daily basis, smoking 10 fags at a time, with 20 screaming kids hyped up on the sugar in McFlurrys, fake gold pendulums swinging from their ears and their delicate mating call of "'ERE, SHARRON, FAAAAAAAKKKKK AARRRRFFFF!!!!".... make me feel sick. These fuckers can't even spell their own names, so tying their shoelaces or anything slightly more taxing is out of the question.

Does education make you a better person? errr.... yes! As I quietly read my book on the life and times of Hubert Marcuse, I think burn these scumbags. But then I am a bit of a facsist.... but fuck it, better than being a liberal fence sitter.... buuuuuuurn them!

Right, I'm just off to find a small European country to invade.... ho hum!

it's not a question of upbringing, wealth, education, intelligence. it's a matter of humanity. they might not realise how lucky they are to live in a country like this, but when i suffering or pain in society, or a thing of beauty i have the same reaction as a council estate slob. no matter how superior i might feel standing next to them.

do you look up to someone? do you see someone as a genius? do you look down on someone? it is natural. it is part of society. however denying humanity by staring at someone in the street who you don't know anything about and attaching your accumulated personal resentment towards certain things in society is always wrong, even if you have the judgemental abilities of a god.

i think some people should volunteer in comps and see if they still feel the same way.

Totally agree with mo.
I admit that i look at people with sovereign rings and massive gold chains, and millions of kids eating at mcdonalds, and i just cannot relate to them at all. I DO think "how CAN you live like that?!"
at the same time, I get called a "fucking hippy poi cunt".
Everyone's different, but fundamentally we're all the same.
One of my best friends used to wear kappa tracksuits and gold earrings, and her younger sister had 3 kids before she was 16! I judged her, I'm ashamed to say. But I got to know her and she had the same taste in music as me, liked the same stuff, it was just her upbringing.
People can judge all they want, but really we're all the same. :)

But I would say that, as i'm a "fucking hippy" :P

I am probably a snob because I am very middle class and I have a tendency to assume most people are cocks until I actually talk to them. But it's not so much feeling superior to people as being scared of them. I hate the outside world because it's full of people what wear hooded tops and apparently they are going to stab me if I make eye contact :( And I live in a super posh village with no crime so going to London or somewhere kind of turns me into a neurotic crazyperson.

Also, what mo said. I can feel smug and better than the greasy smelly chav with horrible ugly screaming children who I see in the street but really in 100 years we'll both be rotting in the ground. My atoms are the same at their atoms init. (but better)
