Interview with Lee Jarvis (from Fat! Records)
Lee J: Thanks for your time Ben, how you doing?
The Rogue Element: Right now; slightly achy in the joints owing to a vigorous game of football last night. Generally; pretty busy (in a good way) with quite a few gigs on at the moment and starting/finishing myriad studio bits. Thanks for asking!
So, everyone is talking about your album, Rogue Rock, you must be pretty proud? Was it fun making it?
Yeah it was fun up until about the last week before delivery and then it suddenly became a Herculean task with getting all the niggly little bits sorted. As for the pride thing, I’m not really thinking about that any more as its done now, just concentrating on the next thing (see below).
To have made such a phenomenal album, at just 26 too, what’s next for The Rogue?
Err… the tricky second album? That in the long run, but in the short term getting some high profile remixes, hopefully outside of breakbeat as well as within the scene, possibly also touring Canada in the new year but nothing is confirmed yet.
What would be your other highlights of 2005?
In terms of work, being offered a remix of the Stantons’ ‘Hope Time’ and it being accepted. Play-wise, The Glade festival was awesome. And my best mate Tom Neville’s wedding was a hoot as well!
And you’ve also recently done a 5 minute mix for Annie Mac on Radio 1, that was pretty awesome too- you sound like you have a lot of different influences…
Yeah quite a few, I think most musicians do though… the Annie Mac thing was brilliant fun to do because it gave me an excuse to trawl through all my old rock CDs from my murky past. Some people are down on the Minimix and say ‘oooh, its like Jive Bunny I don’t like it”, but whats not to like? Its just a bit of fun. Think DJ Zinc holds the record for number of tunes though, 80 or something like that…
Can you pick a favourite record?
Ever? I am going to have two if you don’t mind.. Rage Against the Machine’s debut and Vegas by the Crystal Method.

Tell us something about you that we don’t know…
I love pop music… currently on my ipod is Gwen Stefani’s album and its killer.
So we’ll be expecting a No Doubt/ T Rex mash up soon, I’ll look forward to it, when are we lucky enough to have you down at Fat! Camp then?
