Maybe I've never played an RPG? There was some game my little bro sent me for the iphone that has spells and shit where you did quests and battled goblibns and vampire bats and shit. Is that one?

They are both RPG's.

There are different types these days though, Deus Ex is and action RPG, as is Skyrim.

If you want more traditional then its books and dice like AD&D, Rifts, Earthdawn, Cyberpunk 2020 etc.

call of cthulu with a good dm and a big bag of bud were some of the best evenings i have ever spent. i think they turned our story into a graphic novel. it was ace like space.

wargaming - people into it claim it's like a complex and chalenging game of chess. people not into it see it as painting models of goblins n shit and not going out much, possibly smelling of turps and loneliness.

rpg - people into it claim sitting around making up a story as you go along, thinking about what your 'character' would do, an involving use of imagination. relies on a good 'story teller' or dm. people not into it see it as people scared of the real world sitting around pretending to be heroes.

live rpg - nutters in woods with rubber swords and spells, pretending to drink mead. whole weekends in character. even the people that do it think it's a bit sad. like sealed knot without the audience.

computer games - things you play on a computer.
