few more lessons about japan then. people would listen to me if I was from other country, tbh because its very acceptable. japanese tends to eliminate differences in value if you are one of them, so would be easier if words of wisdom come from a white/ black guy from other country. probably same in Korea.

i think similar problem with breaks nights are in the whole world (except some few countries). so try to do dubstep/breaks/dnb night, or breaks/dnb night. i usually play on parties with more genres.

Facepalm

What did I say about the flyer? Hmm? Take a look at any Japanese flyers. I mean, now.
Surely not written in Japanese.

I am not sure, he is in Korea right? Why would he have any ideas here?

Fair point. But when I met him recently he seemed to be pretty clued up about the scenes in East Asia in general. I was severely inebriated at the time though, So don't quote me on that.

And yes; Japan and Korea have less in common than most westerners perceive; travelling between Korea and Japan is a shows a much, much bigger contrast than the difference between, say, England and France. Even more startling when you consider that the Japanese spent 35 years attempting to completely eradicate Korean culture. :crack:

My plan would be to flyer adverts for www.NSBradio.co.uk on the streets, in the record stores, fashion stores, of Tokyo, get as many people tuning in as possible on a local level, try and get people to hear the variety of music that’s available,
Try and find some stores/bars where people hang out, circle mixes, get stores to play mixes, start fanzines/blog, linking the shiz directly to the u.k scene, U.K websites, download sites, blogs,

build yourself a nice big personal crew around the music based on getting hammered (this is the most important part) and dancing about,
Make sure people know where to access the music, this is vital, if they don’t know about it or can’t hear it, nothing will happen.

Good luck,

CBW raises a good point. It's undeniable that a large part of the attraction to the style is that it caters for those 'cainers' who want lively music but can't do the intense sweatboxes of DNB and also don't like the ponce factor of some cheesey house nights. Classic breakbeaty type beats appeal to the durg taker as they are often repetetive but with enough rhythm to funk out to. If the durg/drinking culture is not so big then you'll have to find rhythms that are compatible with the more sober funky people. Have you tried focusing a bit on the nufunk/electroswing/moomba variations early on in the night? I wouldn't listen to these styles at home so much, but blow me, I went to a night recently and I was surprised at how much I wanted to dance to the nufunk/electro swing type sound becuase it was very loud and there were girls on the floor having fun already, I was stone cold sober and generally it's very difficult to make me dance without any 'extra's' so exploring these other avenues early on in the night is prob a very good idea to help with people who aren't already in an established pattern of going out to get mashed to heavy beats.

maybe you could ask for ideas and then tell everyone they are irrelevant?

Oh VJ, yes. Pretty much all ideas posted here were totally trolled, fucking irrelevant and shitty ideas about the flyer, people living in china and Korea who don't know anything about japanese scenes, but... meeting up with Kawatin was great! It was the BEST idea yet.

Gladly I and eshericks met kawatin few nights ago. He didn't know eshericks was Japanese, and he thought kawatin was the only one doing breaks in Tokyo. Funny stuff, I always said esh is from Japan, but he can't speak English either.

and we are now on the mission to spread the disease. Possibly broken beat one.

Some of milestones we came up...

1.blog/website launching in September.
There aren't any breaks blogs/resources available in Japanese.
So my company ringmasters LLC will start up a website.
Blogs will feature articles about mainly breaks, but also dnb, dubstep, music gadgets/gizmos and vj content. We(me, eshericks, sol-rom, dj108, vj rawlight possibly kawatin and enishi) pitch in to write articles.

There used to be japanese websites about breaks called n-u-c-l-e-a-r.com, and remixerremix.com but both websites no longer exist.

2.possibly an event...but
Kawatin doesn't spin anymore. So no event organized yet, but we want this. Will try for a night from September.

3.breaks merchandise
My company will handle this.

So yea, somewhat we are hopeful.
