to be fair, it says the uk should look at the efficacy of a 0.5% interest rate, not that it should cut it. it DOES say they should think about dropping VAT, and about using our good credit rating (due to, apparently) the austerity measures, to prop up the economy.

my angle is reading the shock doctrine about how the imf went around the world fucking up other peoples countries by imposing one-size fits all policies that ultimately involved saddling nations with debt bound by conditions that always seemed to favour foreign companies buying up state-owned factories/ services/ etc... at bargain basement prices.

so when i see them handing out advice, i generally think it's a load of tosh, although i expect the govt hangs on every word, either because it suits them or because they'll get hammered economically if they don't ask 'how high?'
