whats going on in the Uk these days?

is the economy on the brink of collapse like everywhere else in Europe?

Its funny they built the Olympic village in what is probably the roughest area in East London. I'm sure it will be very safe. (not)

they announced loads of cuts. economy is already tanking and they haven't even begun to hit yet. no plan for growth at all. meanwhile, everything is going up in price and wages are staying the same.

but it's sunny today.

so you say, but a brief glimpse at facebook confirms that 90% of the people who bleat on about the rain, like to moan about the heat.

Interesting. if I only relied on Aus news I wouldn't have a clue whats happening anywhere in the world. The media here is incredibly introspective.

Cats being stuck in trees in Warrnambool are deemed more newsworthy than world affairs.

From what I glean from UK news though is that the Cameron govt are cutting public services and welfare and generally driving the country into the ground.

yeah I remember it being like that when I've been there. Almost as self-obsessed as America (but with a slightly better grasp of irony. Only slightly, mind)

That's awful. Surely past Olympiads should get offered first refusal.

Self-obsessed is not really accurate, like I said its more isolation and introspection.

Australians in general dont want to know whats going on in the rest of the world. Not becaue they're self obsessed but because they dont care, a position reciprocated by the media.

Aus is by and large self-sufficient. Its not part of any bigger institution like the EU unless you include the Commonwealth but thats an old-fashioned concept now and largely irrelevant socio-politically.
