i've had an older 2008 macbook (core 2 duo 2.4ghz, upgraded to 2g ram)for a while now and wanted to rebuild it with a larger hard drive and put on logic from the app store. I seem to recall someone mentioned they were able to run logic fine within there old macbook, possibly edb? but i wanted to see if anyone could advise whether it's worth trying/buying or not...

I think we have similar MacBooks, mine is a A1226 (written in small print underneath), 2.4gHz with 4gb RAM and a decent hard drive. Have no problems running any pro apps, obviously it's not insanely fast but I run logic, final cut, after affects, photoshop, illustrator, in design, avid media composer etc. Just have to resist the urge to use massively heavy going processes I guess, or if you do be prepared to bog off for a period of time whilst it renders.

Mine is the same macbook you speak of. I've got a bunch of tracks i've run on it. It's only recently where my production is really becoming much more complex - I am dying to upgrade to a mbpro. I need me some quad core. What's good about logic though, is that you can bounce a file in 'offline' mode which means some of the heavier processing can be done even if your comp can't handle it live. I mean i've done a ton of stuff on it, and I basically only use the stock VSTs or AUs as they're called for mac nowadays. .

here's an example of all ES2 and the like on my macbook with your exact specs.

and here's an example of a track I'm writing now that's maxing out the shit and I need to bounce it offline just to hear the changes i've made...

basically the heavier you want your stuff to sound, the more processor you need. But you can DEFINITELY get by with this macbook.

Oh, and you WON'T be able to run Massive on this machine. Maybe 1 or 2 instances, TOPS. And you can prolly forget about absynth too. That said, the stock oscillators are pretty decent.

i have an older mpb 2.2 and 3gb ram and logic works a treat on it. pretty sure there's nothing that diff appart from connections really. tho i am not a true geek.

keep audio and projects on an external and you should be fine man.

i made a booboo, my macbook is lower than i thought, 2ghz core duo instead of 2.4 core 2 duo. its a model A1181, i daren't ask if this will run it now though, i need to upgrade perhaps :violin:

thanks all for your feedback though! 8)

Leme, Just kidding, I've got a 2 Ghz macbook too. Don't fret.

Here's how that heavier track is sounding now - I can't listen to it live without it skipping like a mofo, but when I bounce it offline, It's pretty decent.

Go for it!

And to be honest, I've done things with 20-30 track instances. audio and synth. It's just when I get really heavy on a single oscillator that I get lag. and by heavy I mean EQ, compression, Distortion, several sends, modulation, etc etc.
