yes that was my point, i don't always buy free range/good stuff but i do try to, it tastes better. not sure bookers is the place to be going if you care about that sort of thing. of course if you just want cheap chicken then its good. i do love a bookers trip from time to time to stock up on booze and sweets and massive bags of pasta.

yes we do, fo sho, it is bad for the people that eat it, bad for the animals, bad for the environment, bad for all concerned really

i think it would be better for people to have it once or twice a week and have some really good quality stuff than try and get as much as possible, as cheaply as possible inside us.

hughs chicken fight thing was on the tv the other day and the nutritional value of the mass produced chickend is so poor you might as well just have a massive cake.

me too

I agree with Clodders re meat quality. Tbh I do give a shit about the animal's quality of life (just in case that was ambigious in the batty vegetarian thread), but I don't agree with the difference in cost at the consumer end. Angelrah and I have piously tried to buy free-range chicken but the prices have become ridiculous. Seven pounds for two breasts when you can buy the normal stuff for a third of that is fucking daft. We still try to buy the good stuff, but I can definitely understand why a lot of people don't bother.

We do whenever we can but can't afford to always, and if you go and get a bacon butty from the roll van down the road (as I am going to shortly) or ear in a pub or whatever you don't really have a choice.

Have steak from an award winning cow to cook tonight from our local posh butcher :D :cow:

Having said all that, chickens are so stupid they are only a few steps away from plantlife, so their wellbeing, or lack thereof, doesn't keep me awake at night.

i just prefer to eat stuff that hasn't been fed with shit, really.

i think, in all honesty, since living in the sticks and seeing cows, sheep and stuff in the fields and people's small holdings makes it easier to 'see'. when i were a city mouse you didn't even consider it, as it's meat, not dead flesh.

hmm, the thing is it probably should cost a lot for the decent stuff, it shouldnt be something you can afford to eat all the time, it didn;t used to be when my dad was young, or my grandparents, you wouldnt dream of eating chicken every day, even out in the countryside where there was loads of chickens!

factory farming has distroted our perception of the value of things i think, it costs a fair amount of money these days to keep livestock, in a large open space and feed them on decent food and not rubbish, and let them live long enough to become tasty adult chickens!
