I don't really like the stomp stomp of a lot of dance, I don't like the glitchiness of dubstep so tend to listen to mainly breaks and some d&b. It's all about the syncopated beats. I also listen to rock/metal, but a lot lot less than I used to say 5 years ago.

Breaks - 70%
D&B - 10%
Rock - 15%
Jazz/Classical/Funk... - 5%

What do you listen to? Breaks? Mainly electronic music? Or are your tastes more varied and eclectic?

I listen to a wide range of stuff. Everything from classical, opera, ambient, drone, abstract, IDM, acid, breaks, funk, electro, stoner rock, prog rock, industrial, hip hop, 80s trash, Kate Bush, you name it. :) I'm on a constant hunt for fresh sound.

One day I'll be into glitched to fuck abstract sound, and the next I'll be on a 20min a track drone fest with some hardcore techno from Hellfish and the day after it will be Kate Bush, Annie Lennox and the Smashing Pumpkins.

Mostly day to day I reckon I prob listen to more techno, electro and electronica than anything else, that and droney soundscape stuff. Very little of it as vocals. I can't really focus on work with vocal stuff.

I rarely listen to anything in the chart or pop music, including things like Coldplay etc. More mainstream wise I quite like Bat for Lashes, Dead Weather and Them Crooked Vultures at the moment (although nothing on QOTSA), and Hermelin (german post rock instrumentals based group v. recommended)

The electronica stuff I come across day to day mostly goes up here http://www.twitter.com/darkfloor

Anything other than dance music if at all possible.

Classical, opera, jazz, hip hop mostly.

Good music.

All of it aside from the abomination that called RnB - I like the RnB that became soul, not the Mary J Bilge modern toss.

Last thing I listened today was Henry Purcell's Dido's Lament - written in 1689

I have work music and recreational music cos to be honest when you spend hours a week in the studio and alot of time listening to promos and doing radio shows the last thing you want to hear when you're chilling is more dance music (or at least i do anyway). So, as is well documented i spend that time listening to alot of obscure Heavy Metal (mostly Black Metal and Doom stuff at the mo actually although i listen to most stuff if its good) quite alot of Hardcore punk stuff (I like the american classics mainly, Stooges,Black Flag,Minor Threat I also like alot of the new generation stuff like Gallows,Converge and Black Breath ) every once in awhile i like to dig out some good leftfield Hip Hop like El-P,most of the Def Jux stuff and alot of the stuff on Anticon, finally if im feeling sorry for myself i have been known to play abit of Johnny Cash,Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen, proper poor man music.

Kate Bush is a unique artform in herself. Period!

I like RnB as a genre, but a lof of it is horribly sickly. Mary J Blige is good in my books. I don't buy into the celebrity circus that comes with stuff like that though, and a lot of the content I just don't relate too. However I wouldn't dismiss a whole genre because of a few shit areas. There are some interesting rhythms, beats and hooks going on that get nicked for use in a lot of underground music. When I hear RnB over some ghetto-tech or some bass music for example, my ears really prick up.

Syncopation is something that I don't really allign with either. With reagrds to beats, for me, it's more about the groove (or the funk) before anything else. If you get the groove right, you can make the most basic beats sound good.

I mainly listen to world ghetto and booty music. But like DVNT, I'm also looking for the freshest sounds. I tend to like kitsch entertainment as a whole though.

Mostly Hip Hop, Breaks, D&B, electro-house, Trip Hop, Funk. I like alot of pop music; acoustic stuff and pop-punk.

I think the whole "there's only 2 types of music: good and bad" thing is a bit ridiculous because everything comes down to taste.

I also find that if someone answers 'everything' when you ask them what music they are into, it usually means they are exclusively into radio-one pop music and have never really bothered to go find stuff for themselves (because nobody is into every kind of music, and anyone who thinks they are is a moron).

^ that's just an observation, gets on my tits.
