there seems to be a whole pile of peeps here into the Formula One, so thought a thread for us to languish in could be good, esp. at the start of the season....

Toyota disqualified from Quali and will be starting with Hamilton at the back of the grid. Bring on the controversy already :D

This is going to be a wicked year.

Go Button, but it'd be v cool to see Rubens win, esp. in his 17th year in F1

My pick is Vettel

and any thread about GP should contain Pitbabes at the least -

I'll take all 3 please Tom - so jealous you are there!

Right, you know me, I'm an F1 geek and this year they are releasing the fuel loads that everyone qualified with - Bear in mind the minimum weight of car plus driver is 605Kg so everything over that is fuel.

Pos. Driver Car Weight
1. Jenson Button 664.5kg
2. Rubens Barrichello 666.5kg
3. Sebastien Vettel 657.0kg
4. Robert Kubica 650.0kg
5. Nico Rosberg 657.0kg
6. Felipe Massa 654.0kg
7. Kimi Raikkonen 655.5kg
8. Mark Webber 662.0kg
9. Nick Heidfeld 691.5kg
10. Fernando Alonso 680.7kg
11. Kazuki Nakajima 680.5kg
12. Heikki Kovalainen 690.6kg
13. Sebastien Buemi 675.5kg
14. Nelson Piquet 694.1kg
15. Giancarlo Fisichella 689.0kg
16. Adrian Sutil 684.5kg
17. Sebastien Bourdais 662.5kg
18. Lewis Hamilton 655.0kg
19. Jarno Trulli 660.0kg
20. Timo Glock 670.0kg[/pre]

Which goes to show that the Brawns are just fucking fast as they are far from the lightest cars out there.

So.......using the weight differential I can calculate approximately how many laps' extra the weight equates to (according to figures from Williams a lap of Melbourne uses around 2.63kg of fuel) and then from that using historical data for the circuit convert each lap less of fuel into 0.125s of lap time taken off...

It probably makes more sense just to post the table:

Pos/Driver Time "Extra" weight Adjusted Time

1. (1) Button 1:26.202 14.5kg 1:25.513
2. (2) Barrichello 1:26.505 16.5kg 1:25.721
3. (6) Glock 1:26.975 20.0kg 1:26.025
4. (3) Vettel 1:26.830 7.0kg 1:26.497
5. (5) Rosberg 1:26.973 7.0kg 1:26.640
6. (8) Trulli 1:27.127 10.0kg 1:26.652
7. (10) Webber 1:27.246 12.0kg 1:26.676
8. (7) Massa 1:27.033 4.0kg 1:26.843
9. (9) Raikkonen 1:27.163 5.5kg 1:26.902
10. (4) Kubica 1:26.914 0.0kg 1:26.914

That's what I've been doing with my Saturday.

BRING IT ON!

w00t - wicked day!

an ok race with a great result - Go Button - Interested to see if Brawn can keep up that pace for more races.

rather silly of Kubica and Vettel to end their days like that.

And gotta love the GA section of the GP - A girl sat a few people over got hit in the face with a full can of beer - not cool

And we had The Who to close off the day :D

Ed - I thought having to guess the strategy of the teams was cool, now they publish the weights that all but gone - daft to me

bring on Malaysia next week

I can't see how Vettel has been demoted for the accident with Kubica. To me, it looked liked Kubica's fault all day long. He tried to go round the outside on a 90 degree corner.

He (Vettel) should be demoted for carrying on with the fucking wheel hanging off like that, it could have come off in the end and killed someone.

Early days yet but not really impressed by the KERS system. I can't see that much gain, 85 BHP for 6.6 seconds a lap but extra 30kg in weight for the whole GP.

I think Brawn has done a great job considering that the team was dead in the water three weeks ago. Branson will put some money into it so hopefully we will have a more competetive field.

Looking forward to this season but the front wing on the cars make them look fucking awful.

what a complete pair of bellends

I bet their bosses are giving them a solid bollocking.

It was an entertaining first race of the season. I hope McLaren can improve got they (well Lewis anyway) really were shit slow today.

Oh and I hope Brawn GP can sort out their livery... that white with day-glo yellow looks gheyer than a night out with Betty and Binplants :supergay:

i was wondering what they where going to do about Trulli. they pushed him back to last because he has an illegal rear wing, but he started the race with that exact same wing, so if he scored points, he was bound to lose them again. i think they should've disqualified them from the start to be honest. in Brawn GP's case there's no final ruling yet, so no problem there, but Toyota knew the wing was illegal when they started, so they should've been banned from starting.
great to see Button snatch the victory though, it looked like he could've gone much much faster, but since the new rules regarding engines has also changed, i think he was just taking care of his engine.
here's hoping for a similar result next race (though i'm hoping for a better performance from Ferrari of course ;))

it wasn't for the wing, they both started from the pit lane as they did replace the wings. instead:

"Race stewards subsequently handed Jarno a 25s penalty for overtaking under safety car conditions, but the team has filed an appeal within the proscribed time period."

I have the feeling that F1 lawyers are going to be doing ok this year.....

Red Bull got hit with a $50,000 fine for telling him to stay out with the broken car - just plan stupid - and Vettel has a 10 place grid penalty for hitting Kubica. It is a bit hard to see from the big screens at the track, but I thought Kubica, even tho on the outside, was in front and in a quicker car. That's the downside of young drivers...

KERS did have to be the biggest let down - no visible impact at all - no Mario Kartness :(
