Stylus Rex - Surge (Ninelives the Cat Remix) [Ground Level]

and so it begins -

Surge

Surge sees Stylus Rex travelling further down the electro house rabbit hole - and that's not to say that's a bad
idea. i like the dark little nine inch nails-esque sounding groove at.30 in. it's cool, and sounds like something
trent reznor woulda done. the first break is the epitome of quirky electro with a helping of wonk. you know,
this tune has an early morning feel to it unlike a lot of electro house - if i was playing outdoors as the sun was
rising, i'd definitely play it. very fitting.

Surge (Ninelives the Cat Remix)

The feline chunky breakbeat master takes up duties on this one, and takes surge in a completely different direction.
he keeps a bit of the wonk from the original, but adds a big fat dose of driving chunky funk into the mix. definitely a
flow keeper tune (and by flow keeper, i am not saying filler), this tune will keep the energy level of just about any breaks
dj perfectly, and the main build is AWESOME. now, i'd like to tell you where he got this from, and it's going to kill me,
because i know i've heard it about 3 million times, but i can't remember for the life of me. when you all hear the middle
part of this tune, you'll know it. breath of fresh air this is. and it's all trancey too (almost in a seven cities kind of way) - its
builds back up to the feline funk, and we're back on the way to grooville.

good release for ground level. im willing to bet the ninelives mix will be jocked by about 4 billion breaks djs.

Thanks for the great review Ian. Well spotted on the Reznor influence creeping in there....you're the first to have picked up on it. It's a different direction for me so i'm glad you gave it a chance! The next release is gonna be a Breaks tune...promise....just finishing it off now! ;)
