Mark Pember, maybe better known as Meat Katie has been around for a while now, what with labels Lot 49, Whole9Yards, Kingsize, his work as a producer and remixer and of course his djing.

Following in the footsteps of the Freestylers and Joe Ransom, Mark steps up to provide the 21st in the FabricLive mix series.

And he doesnt dissapoint. I must point out that i like Meat Katies style and am rather partial to his Bedrock Breaks outing also, and while there are differing opinions on the slightly unfairly monickered 'plodstep' that Meat Katie is known for, I think this cd is a very fair representation of chunky tech breaks with a fair measure of dirty funk thrown in.

The mix features (of course) a fair bit of Lot49's output including Force Mass Motion, Metric and as yet unreleased track 'Mad As Hell' by Vandal. You also get slabs of Elite Force, Vigi & Nectarios, Dylan Rhymes' Salty remix by MK himself, Lee Coombs, Atomic Hooligan and a cheeky use of the Reign acapella from Unkle.

With this mix Mark follows the fabric and fabriclive tradition of not merely producing quality work, but shows that longevity doesnt always have to mean producing a series of watered down compilations, each indistinguishable from the last.

If you like Meat Katies mixes, labels and dj performances, you'll love this cd. If you dont like Meat Katie, you won't. It is that simple. If you want to see what he does, then this is probably the best place to start to date, other than going to see him.

The album is available from 18th April 2005.

I used not rate Katie, cos i was naiively against the more housey breakbeat about, I then heard his radio essential mix, which was a fuckin rinser, both to listen to on your iPod, and amazing live.

Meat Katie is amazing, and as peter fucking Tong said, "Meat Katie has long been a breaks stalwart, and deservedly so.

Better than the fucking Lavelle, which is definately a good thing.

PS. He's got much better mixing skills than lavelle, but james can always take me on a musical journey- check out 'Do Androids Dream Of Electronic Beats'-- A gem in modern mixtapes.

Definately great mix !!

Vandal 'Mad As Hell' jus ROCKS !! also Mismoplastico - I've been following Meat Katie's stuff for a while now & yes, some say his music is more housey, maybe even samey - BUT he's consistently good at what he does & breaks is all the better for it imo...
His Bedrock Breaks album was great too !!
Big Up !

Definitly one of my fave breaks albums of the year so far and one of the best fabrics in my book as well

Mad as Hell is in the fourthcoming releases section in the Lot49 website. Yippee!

Does anyone know the release date?

mmmmh. Without wanting to be controversial, Im a tad dissapointed.
Mad as Hell is good, but pretty much the only decent track out of all 17.

The album plods along from one un-memorable track to the next, with no innovation, movement etc. Surely someone else agrees?

Maybe I just need to give it a few more listens or something. I've seen him DJ a few times and have liked his style, but just not overly impressed with this one...

Mismoplastiko is by far the best tune on there. Absolute love it! Worth getting the CD just for that tune.
