My recent ventures have been with something called the Demoscene, in short its creative competitions in music, graphics, programming etc. etc.

Thought I'd fire this particular entry up here as an example of what can be done with very little data and some very clever programming. This won first place at the Revision 2012 Executable Music Competition at Easter. The rules of this particular competition is your music has to run from a 32k or less executable program. It's a collaboration track between myself and Gargaj. He wrote all the code for the real-time synthesis, effects etc. but the music is written by both of us.

Total file size is just under 28k and when run produces this track in real-time.

mmmmmm trackers

that track is pretty good

how did you write it?

i used to love the amiga demos, although they were positively gargantuan in comparison having an entire floppy disc to occupy

they also had the great cheezy rave visuals

The core shell system is Buzz Tracker but all the machines (or plugins) were written by Gargaj. It has some really cool signal splitting / joining features which are handy to add effects and what have you.

Amiga rules, period.. Also coming first place was this little 64k Amiga intro which was another colab between Unstable Label and Focus Design. Sadly the youtube doesn't do it any justice!

If you need assistance I am king of the YouTube uploaders.

Also... I have a bunch of 80's computers I'd like to see go to a good home. BBCs, acorn, spectrums, loads of accessories including some music hardware and software. Know anyone? The only thing is I've not got the time to do an inventory, but there is about 8 boxes of stuff.

I have eyed walters collection of BBC hardware

it is most desirable

i believe the hardware is probly for a sequencer called UMI that was used by erasure / vince clarke and also queen for kind of magic

the only piece of midi hardware more obscure than this is a Hotzbox made by Jimmy Hotz for the atari ST

Image

I have never seen one of these for sale ever :violin:

he has the over inflated face of a gak fiend but seeing as how he has a sword and an owl i think i can tolerate his chubby faced and bugle laden demeanor
