At the moment Albino 2 gets my vote 2..

Really good layout, intuitive, lots of good presets to start from, diverse range of sounds, and very easy on the CPU.

I'm against NI because they don't move very fast to release updates for very obvious bugs. Absynth 3 was even shipped with NI fully knowing there were very obvious/critical bugs in it. Any time I had a tech support question it was over a week before I got a bog standard reply, nothing ever very useful.

They make nice sounding synths, no doubt, but I don't like to support companies that put support so far down on their list of priorities.

Thanks for all the replies guys, there's a few mentioned here that I hadn't thought of, like Sytrus and Triangle.

I hate to break it to you, but I think you're going to have to stop using computer software altogether, because that's every software company.

I think over a week is fine. M-Audio got back to me after a month and what they wrote back was absolutely useless!

I don't agree at all, there are lots companies that are much, much more responsive than a week. Rene at RGC answers the same, Access the same day, EMu the same day, etc. The support thing is only a minor reason really though, as I rarely need it anyway.

NI software is just not very stable in my experience, at least not compared to other apps I've used.

My main synth is a Virus TI, it's well worth the time it takes you to save, trust me.

Imo, the Creamware plug-ins sound much better than the Virus. I think that the new intergration bit is great (when it works since there have been quite a few people on the net complaining about it), but actually hearing the TI demos, I can't help but think that Access has been re-packaging their product again and again.
But to each his own.

Well, the Virus series has never really 'redefined' itself completely, it's always been about repackaging what's currently available, and added a few new features with each new version.

FWIW, in the last two songs I posted here, everything but the drums and the very obvious 303 part are entirely from the TI. Actually pretty much all the songs on my website are TI based sans the drums.

That was the best bit from the tune imo. 8)

Vanguard
Fab Filter has great interface and fat sounds.
Z3ta is good but interface I find tiresome.
Ableton Operator for the simplicity of getting a good sound.

Camel Phat Fuzz is good.

if you're using cubase SX 3 you can get some great sounds out of the a1/monologue synths. They both use the tonic filter which imo is a great sounding software filter.

I also rate the sound coming from arturia minimoog. haven't tried the minimonsta but that is also meant to be good.
