So I have an uneven channel balance with some audio in soundforge.

I scan the channel I want to normalise to. Close the normalise box, then highlight the other channel and tick the box to 'scan to this' or whatever it says....ok it and you have normalised to the other channels scan?

Is that right, or in other words how do I correct volume difference in L&R channels that souldn't be there?

Cheers

why do you need to do this?

why not split to individual mono files and then balance in the sequencer (by dropping the louder one)

Still thats a good idea and would be blindingly obvious if I wasn't such a beginner.

Cheers though ;)

Uneven in all, They were uneven when recorded because I didn't adjust the balance then...it was from cassette tape.

you will probably fuck up the center by normalizing separately. I'd go about it this way:

0) Download Monofilter LT, google for it, it's a freebie VST. Instal and make it useable from SF (if you install in default VST folder it should do the trick).

1) Load the track in your SF.

2) Place a paragraphic EQ in that FX chainer thingy (sorry I don't use SoundForge but there is one in SF) and adjust tone (as it will be fuxxored from the cassete tape anyway)

3) Whatever is the name of pan/balance/stereo expansion plugin, I'd place it either before or right after the EQ, doesen't really matter. The important bit is that the following plugin goes AFTER the pan/balance one.

4) Insert MonofilterLT after the pan/balance/stere expander plugin (if it places it somewhere else you can drag left right in the chainer thingie).

5) If 4) made L & R to not peak at roughly the same place anymore, adjust balance. Also, if it sounds too narrow try adjusting the cutoff frequency on the Monofilter and the stereo width in the expand plugin in SoundForge

6) Place a limiter after this to capture the peaks.

Search the SoundForge help for those things you don't quite understand, it should contain explanations for most of this apart from the MonofilterLT which, sadly, is very important. However, MonofilterLT use should be covered by it's homepage.

In sound forge got to process, then pan/expand. Change process mode to preserve stereo seperation and then balance them out.

Even better save your penny's if determined that music is your thing, and this you should already Know deep inside - if you feel this then purchase a copy (i personally recommend you purchase abelton), faster learning curve and great results.
remembering that it will be a hard roads learning music production on the whole, but worth it in the end.
the times i have rammed my head against the wall, but its all falling into place now.
get yourself computer music mag... great tutorials and music tech mag....which delves a bit more into live preformance as well ;)

and dont give up.
