Just wondering if anyone has any tips on getting releasable quality breaks tracks out of reason 3.0. Compositon, eq, mastering etc.

Any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated. My songwriting has stalled, I'd like to take it to the next level.

I just posted a track here called "Tension" that was made exclusively in Reason 3.

I find it is more than enough. Reason is completely transparent sonically, so its all about good sound sources. I use a variety of Refills, but by far the strongest are xsynth and the ReasonBanks stuff. The Proton refill is the basis for really powerful synth sounds. It requires that you learn synth programming, but it turns the NNXT into a beast.

I dont rewire unless I have to, but that being said I am entering a phase where I will be doing a lot of vocal tracks and will be rewiring to ProTools.

Again, Reasons sound is all based on the quality of your samples and the extent of your understanding of the gear in the rack.

I have heard a lot about Reason sounding weak on a lot of producer forums, but I don't think that is true... its all a matter of what inteface you prefer.

haha what a wicked thread.

I use reason 3 rewired with SX3 but I can run stuff faster in reason than anything else.

In fact I often export things from reason into cubase and then find there's so much more depth I can't re-create the vibe I had originally.

I wouldn't sequence in reason but it works like a scratch pad for me and the two together offer maximum versatility.

cubase is a serious piece of software and its a lot easier to go wrong - that works both ways. I know plenty of people writing whole tracks in reason and in fact the sound of DnB as we know it was shaped by that software so...

ultimately don't think it's not worthy.

a good producer will make good tunes regardless of the sequencer he uses.

I use Reason for a lot of stuff still, like Youthful I rewire into Cubase SX as I find the mastering and fx in there leaps ahead but having learnt on Reason I can still work a lot faster in there. Tend to put my drums and some other noises in Reason now and then use VSTI's in Cubase for some other noises.
I do find it much easier to get the overall mix sounding good by going through Cubase though! Its all about the Waves Platinum bundle innit

I've been using Cubase for years and currently use Cubase SX3 ReWired with Reason 3 but I am considering switching to just using Reason 3.

In Cubase, I now have so many VSTs and VSTis that I think it maybe hindering the creativness of my tracks, as I spend so much time messing with different synths, presets and FX. I'm thinking that, if I limit myself by just switching to Reason, I will spend a lot more time making what I have got sound the best it possibly can. Been thinking about doing this for a little while and after reading this thread ...tonight, thou shall mostly be twideling Reason!

werd - i've been at it a year or so, and have recently deleted loads of plugins and vsts to concentrate on just a few.

I'm rubbish, but since I did that the quality of my music has increased exponentially.

find the tools you like the most, learn them and then put time in.

If you played Tiger woods using a 3 grand set of golf clubs, and he was using a budget £50 set, he'd still whoop your arse.

Liam Howlett is a good example of this. The fact that he wrote the first 2 1/2 albums on his keyboard's sequencer (Roland W-30).

The guy is a genius!

i use Reason 3 but as said before i use sounds sampled from hardware to get better results, i do use the Subtractor for sub-bass sometimes, then i mixdown by rewiring through Nuendo and some tasty UAD bizzle!
had lots of tunes out now done on Reason and now really looking FWD to sticking version 4 on my machine!
on the Scream front i tend to put "Tape" distortion on most things, seems to liven things up no end, to sum up, Reason rawks!

that is impressive.

i love reason (3.0) - im suprised so many people use it, like somebody said b4 - ive always seen in production forums that reaosn is gash - so assum3ed most used other software. but def. the more your learn the more your sound improves. def. need to get a midi keyboard for it id say, killin me drawin it in and pissin around with the matrix at the min

scream is brilliant - use it on almost all my drums 2

Reason itself is fine, the audio engine is gash. Hence why so many people use it rewired as this circumnavigates the issue :)

Reason 3 is the tits dude, don't let these punks tell ya otherwise!

The key is not to use Reason synths till you know how to get the best from them, use samples instead.

If you do that, reason is just as good as anything else - in fact the reason 3 EQs and compressors are fine, they may not sound a whole lot better than Behringer gear but at least the components can't fry!

Rewiring is still preferable to benefit from better summing in a higher quality mixer, (and maybe to add some 3rd party processors and FX).

Hell we here at Entity productions WRITE all our stuff on Reason, and it ain't doing us much harm! ;)

:app:

the man knows what he's talking 'bout

yes.

i've used reason for everything from jazzy broken beat to drum n bass.

but, as mentioned by others, write it, arrange it, then either rewire it or bounce tracks down to drums n percussion, bassline and any other parts into another programme for the polishing afterwards.

Did this thread just skip three years and continue seamlessly where it left off?
