About to get a new desktop PC and I wondered whether people find that 64 bit procesors aren't supported by a lot of common audiowarez?

I know Ableton have got a new update coming with 64 bit support but would I be better getting a 32bit machine for now?

I understand that a 32bit OS can only support 4GB of RAM is that right?

I have a 64bit and don't have a problem with any software/audiowarez ;)
And like you say, if you use Ableton then be worth going with the 64bit and it's a beast ;)

its only the OS and as time progresses it will become the norm. it allready is for graphics and 3d software.

if you are using cs 5.5 etc then you will love it - massive files ahoy lol

99% of audio software will run on a 64 bit machine, using 32 bit software. a 64 bit system can run both. I wouldnt reccomend anything but 64 bit. It also means that each 32 bit program can access 4 gig of memory, not 4 gig for your system and programs.

Do it!

Be aware though, of the SSD size you go for and what you plan to put on it - music software like cubase etc can take up a fair bit of space so try and work out how much you need for each install as a basic setup, then figure if a 120gb SSD will be enough to start you off. I`ve maxed mine out fairly quickly but use a cheapo external harddrive for everything else.. As has been said SSD drives make a huge difference, harddrives have always been a bottleneck..

Jeez not been on here for a while when did they amalgamate the production forum with hardware or was it always?

I thought that it was not the 64bit machine that was specifically the problem. Its running a 64bit version of the sequencer on a 64bit machine with 32 bit plugs thats the problem. A 64 bit machine can run a 32bit version of the sequencer meaning 32bit plugs work fine.

I see. OK. I have had issues installing certain 32bit VSTs and other audiowarez such as Wavelab on my 64 bit laptop in the past which is why I started the thread.
