Hello,

Your advise would be much appreciated, for those who have Acoustic Foam in there studio did this make a massive difference
to your sound for mixdowns, there is loads of difference styles of acoustic foam (Wedges/egg crate/tiles ect) which is best or do they all do the same?
Im thinking of getting some, any advise would be glorious :)

Peace
BoBa

someone will be along to ask you questions about the size of your room and the acoustic problems you want to fix shortly.

I've used both foam and now broadband absorbers, and can say that both work well if you follow basic acoustic principles when positioning it. The downside of foam is that it really only treats 1st order reflections in the mids and highs, even the foam "bass traps" only are effective to about 400Hz. Since the number one issue most people have trouble with is taming the low end, just be aware that foam will only do so much.

Having switched to broadband absorbers recently (from GIK Acoustics), I can say the difference is HUGE. So maybe keep saving to go that route, or consider supplimenting your foam with maybe a couple broadband absorbers in the corners to help with the low end.

Oh, and don't use the spray on adhesive for the foam, it's messy and you'll hate yourself if you ever move and need to remove it. Simple T-pins from any craft store wwork great and only leave tiny pin holes when you remove them.

Tarekith is right, that broadband absorbers are best, but you could probably treat an entire room with foam for the price of one.

Here's a comparison chart of various foam types and thicknesses,

and a handy video by me that shows you where to put em.
