Hey all, I was just wondering what sort of advice people have for a pair of excellent monitor speakers for mixdown, EQ, and mastering.

I don't want to spend too much, but I want something that's professional quality, so I'm thinking maybe Rokit 8's, but I'd like to know if anyone has advice on similarly priced alternatives that might be better quality?

Rokits are nice to work on and are very clear, I don't quite think they're 'flat' as such but a damn sight better than Alesis M1's

They have to be better than the Yorkville's I'm currently using, hahaha

Also, what sort of subwoofer, if any, would complement a pair of good studio monitors?

I'm happy with my Tanny Reveal 5As although for some reason since I stopped using crappy hi-fi speakers my productivity has diminished massively lol
...I think it's all the tweaking...

Adams, Adams, Adams... go for the best you can afford, the only difference in them is the bottom.end gets deeper as you get bigger.

So where does the line lie? I've heard that you don't want to use a subwoofer for EQing a track, but my monitors don't really go much past 70Hz so before I attached my subwoofer and started using it, I was finding it impossible to judge the level of my sub bass accurately.

Is it really a terrible idea to use a subwoofer or can it be done as long as you turn it off every now and then to make sure you're not making tracks that only sound good if you have a subwoofer?

If it's a good idea to use one, what are some suggested subwoofer choices?

only EVER get a sub if you have the room acoustically treated - it's just another link in the chain that will make thngs more complicated. just geta decent set of monitors

agree on the ADAM's - I had the A5's and they were stunning
