Recently I have been getting well in to the tight production and rolling basslines that psy-breaks has to offer.

I have already downloaded about 15 songs from Juno, and have been trawling Beatport for a while but I tend to end up going in circles.

Can some of you recommend me some artists that aren't Hedflux, Bad Tango, LuQas, Snook or Neurodriver, as these are the main artist I have been basing my searches around.

Cheers peeps :)

Broken Eye, Big Mistake, Fletric, Peak (as in 'RMS and Peak'), Unconscious Mind(s), Kiwa, Roboteknic, 48k, Mr Mirra, Project Synthetic. Slightly older artists that are certainly worth checking out would include people like Mood Deluxe, Digitalis, Amb, Rex, Slack Baba, Orzels Machine. Some of the Boonos stuff is pretty dam psychedelic too! :D

Also my mate Alex has just sort of come out of nowhere making really phat techy psychedelic breaks under the name Motna :)

Hope that helps dude!

Lawgiverz, Jnr Hacksaw, Si Begg, Tipper, SOTEG (or Bil Bless). Just about anything on Trigger. <3

Slinky (someone already checked Digitalis, they've done some wicked collabs), Sensient, Jim Reaper gets trippy on it occasionally, Whistla (gay-rage _is_ breaks) - lots of the L2S stuff is brain-melting.

You know, it all depends on what you mean by psy-breaks. If you're talking about the techno with missing kickdrums that's current: Bad Tango, Home Alone and Biggles cover most of it ...

I almost forgot Will Marshall. That's a bit embarassing.

Also Pillform, when he does breaks. OTT (and the label that OTT is on, which doesn't spring immediately to my mind right now). Kilowatts' uptempo stuff. Simon Posford, in all his guises (Schpongle particularly).

nic_: Sidel did a remix of Muse - Infected Mushroom vs J Views. You'll probably hate it, because it's your default position.

I'm not sure I understand. Surely psy breaks is a fairly recognisable format?

What makes it psy as opposed to tech as opposed to bog standard breaks?

Cunting forum ate my post :(

If it's sure that psy breaks is instantly recognisable, why are you asking me "what makes it psy"?

Still, I'll play along: the thing I know for sure is that there's a difference between what Schpongle, OTT and Whistla have done, and what (to pick names entirely not at random) what Bad Tango, Home Alone and Macho have done.

To me, it's psy if it has twisty, trippy lead sounds. Often has glitchy edits. *shrugs* But then I think 2-step is breaks, so my opinion is possibly questionable.

*no-edit double-post!*

I couldn't be arsed digging up the thread on here where Ben said it, so I'll c'n'p from globalpsybreaks. Do you doubt that Ben knows what he's talking about?

Quote:
Psybreaks covers a very wide range and means different things to different people. Four main types:

1)Made by psytrance producers and basically sounds like psytrance with a breakbeat, typically in the 140s bpm. Mood Deluxe is the classic example, or Scorb "Ipso Fvcto"

2)Chunky electrobreaks/electrohouse which borrows production ideas and squizzy noises from psytrance: Far Too Loud, most Broken Robot releases, Kiwa, Hedflux, some Robosapiens.

3)Progressive psybreaks: Nuskoolbreaks/techfunk/progressive-breaks origins, epic evolving builds and breakdowns inducing hypnotic trance states. Effortless trippiness. This went on quietly for years before anyone thought to call it psybreaks. Chi Recordings is quite a goldmine for it, Sinister Recordings were the masters (now deceased), other Robosapiens, Plastic Shell, Amb, Skein, Omar Santana, also although I wouldn't call BETA or BSD psybreaks exactly, they often have the right sensibilities to fit in this category.

4)Glitchy electrobreaks/dark electro: from Espion and Marc Adamo at the more accessible end, via Butter Party and Kilowatts, to Lawgiverz, Jnr Hacksaw, Tipper, Skeetaz, SOTEG, Mr Rogers... Addictech is the place to shop for glitch and what I like to call "psywonk", tho it often descends into a game of Dodge The Dubstep....
