Is it the new standard template / paradigm for breaks?

Its very interesting to see how breaks has evolved and taken a little bit of a lot of genres and mashed them into one new sound. Its kind of like 2002-2004 again when cross pollination of scenes was occurring leading to some really interesting music both of the 'deep' and 'rave' persuasions.

At the moment it seems that there is a lot of influence coming from the psytrance and 'new dubstep' scenes with a scattering of amen breaks, trance and the ever present funk / golden era hip hop samples to remind us that it is in fact breaks :tuna:

This manifests itself in a sound that is very much at the cutting edge of electronic music but one that has not forgotten its past (but remembered the good bits) a strong basis on which to build a future and gain new followers.

Long gone are the complicated finicky pernickety click clack percussion, out of time drums, bland sampled garage and jungle bass lines, unusual structures and cultural references to a time long gone.

Now we reference the burgeoning, interesting and musically broad brostep and psytrance scenes embracing cutting edge sonic technologies that these scenes eschew. The rise of the internet has also had a very strong effect on breaks producers bringing them together online and exposing everyone to a huge range of musical possibilities - this was not really as possible in 2002. Originality is now key and collaborations bring new ideas to the fore of the breaks sound.

:D

Its an exciting time Paperhangers (my autocorrect turned lightshapers into that btw - not me)

The breadth of sounds within the breaks scene is breathtaking at the moment - the emphasis on 'pure midlands' dancefloor has subsided somewhat and is bringing in some more interesting sounds based on outdoor parties and the US dubstep scene. I wonder how long it is until the psybreaks burial is discovered and accepted...wont be long imo.

 pure midlands?

surely psy breaks evolved from the demise of the tech funk scene? the hippie shit lock crew got hold of it and started trying to make it sound like far too loud b side tributes didnt they?

tech funk was OK but not anything on the psy sound - anyway some of my favourite break labels at the moment are:

1. Broken Robot
2. Ruff n Fresh
3. Distortion Records
4. ElektroShock Records
5. Fresh Pump
6. Hard and Hits

:yesyes: :yesyes:

Hoping to pick up some vinyl from these labels soon

 Yeah, Paperhangers sounds like a semi sarcastic metaphorical simile, like chocolate teapot, but more accesible to a globaly audience.
Someone should right an uplifting female US rock anthem about having a wardrobe full of paper hangers and how impractical that would be in everyday life.
