It seems the general opinion is that, even though Rises is brilliant, it isn't quite as good as the Dark Knight. I tend to agree tbh.
But yeah, it's a superb conclusion to what I think is the best comic-book film trilogy ever. Proper amazebats. I wanna go see it again

The Dark Knight is one of my favourite films of all time so I was expecting this to be a big let down but in my opinion, whilst not as coherent and slick as TDK it was a total triumph once it got going (which took a long time). It's far from perfect but there are so many good ideas here and such an epic scope that it can be forgiven for it's flaws. I will watch it again soon just to digest it all. It has made me want to watch the first one again which I was slightly unimpressed by on first viewing.
Basically: Some fucking awesome film making going on right here.
Far from perfect, like you said.
It has massive elements of 'everything but the kitchen sink' in there. Like Nolan thought it could be his last film in a slightly desperate coup de grace. 3 hours is far too long for any film and I got bored of the same cliched emotional tension being built and then let out in explosions, fights and character twists. It was obvious in the extreme and not as mature or emotionally complex as begins or returns. IMO.
