My job is reactive. If a server goes down then it get busy/difficult. Otherwise it's plain sailing.

I won't be doing this job after next week though.

I'll be stuck in a room on my own re-writing the crash book, which is basically the procedure to follow if everything goes tits up.

Welly challenging.. working as a self employed software developer. This is what I always wanted to do, besides destroying universe. I need to put fucking loads of effort to focus on the tasks which is not very easy to me. Still loving it since I don't like being idle.

My job is not particularly difficult though there's quite a lot of work involved. If i'd tried to do this 10 years ago i''d have failed at it miserably - as it stands, I think I'm pretty good at it right now. :-)

Debugging over a million lines of code is not easy, and having the confidence that my fixes wont break anything else is pretty tough. A few years back someone fucked the job which brought down a mobile operators network for a whole day. This was on new years day where none of their customers could make any calls. It cost them an estimated 6 million in lost revenue. :violin: Potential fail is always present. :pervolin:

Surely you only have to debug the incorrect lines?

First you have to work out which ones are incorrect. Sometimes its only a few, other times big chunks are complete shite and need a re-write. Our offshore development team are totally awesome, they provide me with a job for life init. 8)
