I built my PC in 2009 and it still runs top games and programs like a beast. Probably cost you a lot less than it cost me three years ago. I'll see what it costs to build mine now tonight and let you know.

Ahh I see you said recent. Well the geek inside me wants to know now anyway so will still let you know.

Cheers.

TBH my current pc is still powerful enough for my needs (core 2 quad) but it has been playing up lately in a hardware stylee, and rather than troubleshoot it I thought I'd build a new one

If I do get around to troubleshooting my current one I might turn it into a media server.

I know what you mean. There is nothing wrong with what I have. But I just think about what I could have and would love to build another. Some kind of absolute mental beast that is absolute overkill for my needs and may even come to life when I am asleep perhaps.

I just checked. My MOBO was £88 and is now £108 :crack:
My graphics card was £78 and is now about a hundred quid :crack:

What. The. Fuck? Have the prices gone mad or something?

I'll be using it for games, not making tunes in gheybleton, prawns, teaching myself stuff, virtual computing, media serving, internets, processing words, crunching numbers, making photo's look better/worse posting on nsb :violin:

I tried to build a hackintosh with my friend - we got the parts and then failed. Wish could get it working as a mac and get him out of windows land for a bit.

Cheap as chips mobo bundles - some with graphics cards but all pre-tested - stick in case - attach drives - install OS or repair pre-existing OS and off you go.

This setup will keep you future proofed for a few years I would reckon....just make sure your PSU is up to the job ;)

intel 2600K ~£210 inc heatsink/fan
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO - ~130
16GB of DDR3 1333 ~ 60
ATI 6950 gfx 1Gb ~£160

All in, about 560 though you could probly get cheaper if you know a good corp retailer ;) System should be ripe for clocking if you fancy that.
