What the fuck was that all about? Don't know if your school was like mine, but they went nuts about it. We had to sing special songs, go to fricken church, do special plays and dress up like corn. As i understand it's an old english Pagan tradition to give thanks for a good harvest which is great and all that but what would todays equivalent be? Like the " Stole indigenous farmland to mass import cheap grain year round for Tesco Festival ?" Everyone prays and sings songs in their local morrisons while a vicar splashes children with coca cola and sings the mcdonalds theme repeatedly in a gregorian style plainsong chant?
I wonder if schools even still have harvest festival. Children would be like "eh? food comes from sainsburys fool and my mum has to pay for it so why am I gonna thank anybody "

Not to be confused with ' The Harvester Festival ' which is great fun and is full of 'all you can eat' crunchy salad, long waiting times and ill thought out wedding receptions.

they used to have fete's and stuff when i were a kid and get the children to play some pagan games, like winding that maypole etc...

i would like to bring up kids in the country when they are young.

it's about celebrating the harvest, the first real decent feed/meal of the year, usually.

they used to drive cattle between holy/blessed poles, which were bedecked with ribbons, now a maypole.
