Theres been a few key moments in brands career when i've looked at him and thought that underneath the fasade, he's actually quite an intelligent bloke. That video has pretty much set the record straight...

He can't help himself, but I like him on the whole.

what’s wrong that

i listened to whole thing live on the radio and it was absolutely on point, correct, well thought out, the point he's making in that clip is, they don't get it, they don't understand it, if you deal with addiction there is no crime and therefore no victim.
He was asked/invited by the home affairs committee to talk about drug addiction and ways to deal with drug addiction and what he said made more sense than any m.p has said in the history of drug addiction.
the idea that a comedian might crack some jokes
The problem isn’t Russell brand, it’s wanky tory/mail reading cunts that jump to conclusions and rely on rhetoric and in built prejudice to deal with and pass judgemnt on things they know nothing about.

He discredits himself in a superficial way by being unable to make a nervous joke out of almost everything. It's who he is, and the starchy men in charge might be the ones with the problem, but in terms of conforming to the norms expected of people influencing governmental policy, he does not conform. I can see that some may think this is good (is is who he is, and we like him), and I can see why some may think this is bad (he does so well until the last hurdle and clashes with people).

Personally I like his philosophy, I like the way he comes across, but I do think he would be more conniving to the starchy right if he could keep his mouth shut a bit more (whether or not he should do, or should want that, I suppose is another question entirely).

Indeed, but it's them that are ultimately wrong, and they should feel the pressure of change, he doesn't owe them or anyone anything, they are elected to serve the people, if brand gets his tone wrong or fucks up, he's only damaging himself, if they implement disastrous policies and laws, people die, suffer and whole generations and communities can be lost.

There is a valid debate to be had. I agree with his viewpoint, but his method is wrong. Had he have been eloquent and considered (which I'm sure he is capable of) he may have got a point across. This has done nothing to further the debate.

wasted opportunity imo.

nothing will ever further the debate on drugs. drugs are bad. they are outlawed. users are criminals.

the evidence may suggest that liberalisation might be part of a working strategy, but mp's need votes and free drugs for schoolkids doesn't get you votes. which is what the daily mail will print.

so might as well wear a shit vest and tell some shit jokes and generally treat it like the charade it is. it won't change a bloody thing. he could have a shit on the table and drugs will still be banned.
